Privacy

We try hard not to collect your personal or banking details except what's needed to get by, so there's far less to say here than most privacy policies.

The shortest version

What the app stores

Only what it needs to do the job:

Passwords are stored only as a salted hash, never as text. Nobody, including us, can ever read your password.

What we never do

Cookies

The app has one cookie, CYW.Auth, which keeps you signed in. Sorry EU, we need it. It is essential - without it there is no way to stay logged in - and it holds nothing beyond a session reference. Signing out or deleting your account invalidates it.

This marketing website uses Google Analytics to count visits, which sets its own cookies. That is the only tracking anywhere on this site, and it does not run inside the app. If you would rather not be counted, any browser-level tracking blocker will stop it, and nothing on the site or in the app will behave differently. We just want to know if anyone reads our articles!

Other services involved

The app talks to a small number of outside services, and never sends them anything about you. Only that Count Your Wealth is interested in something.

Getting your data out

From your settings you can export your entire account to a spreadsheet - every asset and every valuation you have recorded. Individual assets can be exported on their own too. There is no export limit and no waiting period.

Deleting your data

Deleting your account from your settings removes it along with your assets, valuations, photos and sessions. It is a real deletion, and it's immediate - so export first if you want a copy.

Backups

The database is backed up daily by the hosting provider so a failure doesn't lose your history. A deleted account will persist in those backups until they age out, which is a normal consequence of having backups.

Children

Count Your Wealth isn't intended for anyone under 16, and accounts shouldn't be created for them. We have no way of knowing your age though, so trust.

Changes to this page

If what we do with your data changes, this page will change with it and we'll let you know so you can decide what to do accordingly.

Who are "we"?

Good question. I say "we" a lot above, but it just makes me sound fancier. I'm really just a guy in New Zealand who was bored of his spreadsheet and wanted an easy way to update his family's net worth without the hassle of Excel.

I am a real developer during the day though, and have worked in Finance and Banking for most of my career, so I know a bit about privacy and security. I'd love you to sign up. I believe financial literacy is important and this is a small way I can give back. Sharing it with the world didn't seem too much extra work.
